Seeing the Magic Below the Surface
Take a good look at an object that you look at all the time—a painting…a piece of furniture…or something as everyday as your stove or coffeemaker. Keep looking at it until you begin to see it as though for the first time. You’ll notice its colors and shape (as well as the shape it is in). There’s a big difference between looking, which we do every day, and seeing, which we do less often. Looking is when our eyes take in images. Seeing is when our brains give meaning to what we look at. It’s amazing what you really see when you view the world this way.
