The Forgotten Pursuit of Using Your Hands

These days, we spend many waking hours moving our hands over a keyboard or touch screen. We spend much less time moving our hands in other ways—knitting a sweater, repotting a plant, building a shelf, refinishing a chair or even cooking a new dish. But working with our hands is good for us. It feels good to plunge into wool…dirt…dough…wood. Working with our hands enables our minds to pleasantly wander while we toil—and gives us the satisfaction of creating something new. What can you make with your hands?
