Yes, there is such a thing as “too busy.” Writer Tim Kreider, who called it “the busy trap,” in a New York Times article of the same name, explained that “busyness” can seem to give life meaning, but that it really is just a “hedge against emptiness.” Some idleness is good for us, he says, and is actually as “indispensable to the brain as vitamin D is to the body.” In fact, he explained, we need this “space and quiet” to make connections…be inspired…and see the big picture. As Kreider wrote, “Life is too short to be busy.”
